Hire Services
There are different types of hire, under different conditions which protect the hirer and the hire company. These are set out by the CPA [Construction Plant Hire Association] who are the principle point of contact for all issues relating to use of construction plant.
CPA Hire
The 2011 Hire Contract Terms and Conditions for Consumers for Plant and Equipment Supplied with an Operator, are
terms that cover the hire type when a customer or company needs to hire a crane or machine with an operator which
are both supplied by the hire company.
In basic terms, the customer can hire a crane with an operator from a hire company, but the customer
is responsible for certain elements of the hire, a few of which are listed below:
- Selection of the right crane and accessories
- Ensuring the site conditions are adequate
- Accepting responsibility for loss or damage of equipment

Contract Lift
The Construction Plant Hire Association standard terms and conditions for contract lifting services
are terms that cover the hire type when a customer or company requires the hire company to plan
and manage the lifting operation including the responsibilities set out in the terms and conditions.
In basic terms the customer can then hand most of the hire responsibilities over to the hire
company, a few of which are listed below:
- Selecting the correct equipment for the lift
- Planning the lift including the risk assessment
- Ensuring the personnel involved are trained and competent

Self-Operated Hire
The 2011 Hire Contract Terms and Conditions for Consumers for Plant and Equipment Supplied
without an Operator are terms that cover the hire type when a customer or company hires a crane
from a hire company for commercial or private use and does not require any assistance from the hire
company.
This type of hire holds the customer or company hiring the equipment responsible for all
